Many of you have asked about the suitability of Liberto vegan protein shakes to aid weight loss, as a meal replacement.
The top line:
In short, yes, you can use Liberto vegan protein shakes as a meal replacement. Providing this is in combination with a healthy balanced diet. However, we do not recommend using them as a total diet replacement (this is when you only drink shakes).
We’ve had feedback that some of our customers are successfully using Liberto vegan protein shakes to aid weight loss. Well done! They report doing this by substituting a meal for a shake.
In basic terms, to lose weight you need to create a calorie deficit (i.e. burn off more calories than you eat). Common advice is to aim to create a 600kcal deficit per day. So, for the average woman this involves having a 1400kcal/day diet, and average male a 1900kcal/day diet. This should lead to weight loss of around 1-2lbs per week (on average).
There are many ways to cut these 600 calories. Evidence shows that no method is superior than others, it’s all about what suits you best.
One serving of our vegan protein shakes contains around 150 calories when made with water. This is substantially less than most meals (which may contain 300kcal-1000kcal depending on what you eat). So, swapping a meal for a protein shake may support weight loss, in combination with a healthy balanced diet.
Our vegan protein shakes are not designed for total diet replacement or formal weight loss programs. There are specialist products for these purposes, that are fortified with micronutrients and supported by clinical trials.
